How to reach les Houches

The school will take place in:

We recommand to come by train and avoid plane when possible. Also, we ask participants to stay for the whole duration of the school. Here is a simple way to estimate the amount of CO2 emitted by your trip: https://apps.labos1point5.org/travels-simulator

Train:

Geneva (Switzerland) and Annecy (France) are main train stations that can be reached by fast trains. From there, one needs to take slower trains to reach Les Houches train station (+ taxi from the train station to the School).

One can travel from Geneva to Les Houches by train. Note that there are 3 connections (go through Annemasse on the French side or through Martigny on the Swiss side). Arrival at the station "Les Houches", with one change at Saint-Gervais (from France), or at Martigny (from Switzerland).

There are about 10 trains per day between St-Gervais-les-Bains Le Fayet and Les Houches (25mn trip).

Then we strongly advise you to take a taxi to go up from the train station to the school (5km). As an order of magnitude, the taxi costs 40 euros from les Houches train station, 50 euros from Chamonix and 70 euros from Saint-Gervais.

Walking is also an option but not if you have heavy luggage (it takes a little more than 1 hour to walk the 4 to 5km -- depending on the path you take-- between the train station and the physics school).

Plane:

• Geneva Airport is one hour drive from les Houches.
• The simplest way is to use a shuttle service (approximately 40 euros up to the school, book at least three days in advance). If you already have your return date, we would recommend to book a return trip. Consult the list of companies.

Car:

• Les Houches is easily accessible from France (A41 highway), from Switzerland (Martigny and Col des Montets) and from Italy through the Mont-Blanc Tunnel.
• In Les Houches, bear right by the first road out for "Les Houches Bellevue". When arriving at the cable car station "Bellevue", turn right and continue upwards (roughly 2 km starting from the teleferic). 500m after the cable car station "Prarion", turn left and follow small arrows at crossroads. Continue up to the end of Route de la Côte des Chavants. Here you are!
